SUBMARIVER®: AN INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY

Via Marina has designed a high-performance and low-cost water transportation system that transports water using flexible pipes up to 4 metres in diameter resting on the seabed. Water, sourced at river mouths or from wastewater-treatment facilities, can be transported over hundreds of kilometres. The Submariver® system can be deployed in many of the world’s coastal regions.

SUBMARIVER®: A COST-EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONE

The cost of transportation, which depends on distance and flow, is much lower than the cost of conventional solutions (desalination, transportation by ship, canal or land pipelines, etc.).

SUBMARIVER®: POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Each infrastructure project is subject to specific environmental impact studies designed to determine appropriate collection levels from an ecological perspective. In efforts to limit the downstream impact on ecosystems, only a small quantity of the residual flow is collected at river mouths. The system uses less energy than conventional methods, such as desalination. The submariver® system has received a positive evaluation from numerous environmental specialists.

SUBMARIVER®: A SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Water transported by Submariver® can be channelled directly for agricultural use (which accounts for over 70% of water use worldwide) and, following conventional water-treatment processes, for domestic and industrial use. Treated wastewater transported by the system can be used for irrigation or to feed groundwater tables in compliance with WHO or FAO standards. Submariver® allows for more cost-effective management of raw water resources, thereby promoting social and economic development in the coastal regions where the system is implemented.
