Our “Safety First” policy

La sécurité d'abord

Respect for each human being is fundamental and ranks at the top of the values at VINCI Construction Grands Projets.

To ensure that worksites remain safe spaces, the Safety First policy applies to everyone at his or her level within the organization.

Beyond the application of laws, regulations, and contractual obligations, all means are put forward to protect the health and safety of all stakeholders (employees, subcontractors, partners, clients, and visitors).

Safety is an integral part of the management culture at VINCI Construction Grands Projets. It is also a source of progress, as it fosters work quality and contributes to our know-how, experience, and competence. Safety is an essential condition for our employees and contributes to client satisfaction.

The safety policy must be understood, implemented, and sustained

We promote safety by:

- Providing welcoming meetings for new hires, training, individual protective equipment (IPE) and medical follow-ups for the employees
- Monitoring dangerous equipment and products (at purchasing, during maintenance, periodic audits) and work preparation and implementation (coordination at both design and execution phases, follow-up on provisional structures, specific implementation and control procedures)
- Conducting meetings, inspections and audits and capturing data aimed at monitoring system effectiveness and promoting continuous improvement.

(A)live on site

VINCI Construction Grands Projets has implemented a program for its personnel in France and abroad designed to raise awareness of behaviour-related workplace risk and promote a safety mindset. The program is adapted to each different project and offered in the language of the participants. Since 2008, over 1,100 participants have benefited from the program, which has been offered in French, English, Arabic (Algeria, Egypt, Libya), Portuguese, Greek, and Hindi. (A)live on site was awarded a prize in the “Management” category (international sector) as part of the 2009 edition of the VINCI Innovation Awards.
This innovative campaign uses video to raise awareness regarding high-risk behaviour at worksites and encourage a safety-first approach to work. The campaign is built around participation and aims to encourage worksite personnel to put forward their own solutions. Management personnel were involved at each discussion session in this campaign, framing the process with introductory and concluding remarks. The initiatives proved to be constructive and uncovered several areas for improvement.
The program name, “alive on site,” clearly spells out its objective for all VINCI Construction Grands Projets employees: promoting safety is a means of earning one’s livelihood rather than losing one’s life. It also refers to the study of images that are shot “live” on site for a true understanding of risks and how to minimize them.
