In French Guiana, VINCI Construction Grands Projets is managing the
enormous construction site where ground infrastructure is being built

the space centre in Sinnamary, French Guiana, in the first half of 2009.

The Chernobyl arch at D-6 months
Each 26 April, on the anniversary of the explosion of reactor No. 4,
images of Chernobyl suddenly take on a more sombre hue. Those who
visited the site can testify to that: the scenes of 1986 are so deeply
ingrained they can scarcely believe their eyes when they come upon it
now, surrounded by forests and a lake, and with people at work there.
Twenty-two years after the accident, Chernobyl is definitely not a no
man’s land. Even so, the 30-km “forbidden
zone” and watchtowers remain. That’s because inside the sarcophagus, the bloc no. 4 structure wrecked by the explosion, lies the bulk of the
reactor fuel mixed up with structural materials, all adding up to a
1,350-tonne vitrified mass. In Guyancourt and Kiev on hard work, the
teams of Novarka, joint venture formed by VINCI Constructions Grands
Projets and Bouygues TP, are planning the Chernobyl containment shelter
“system”, and the project’s operational
contours are taking shape.

Route des Tamarins: impressive achievements
The Route des Tamarins project on Reunion Island, carried out in a
single phase between 2005 and 2009, is made up of a series of
structures of different types, some of which are exceptional. Several
Vinci Construction companies are putting their stamp on this enormous
project. They are particularly involved in the impressive Grande Ravine
viaduct.

Design: what is the builder's responsibility?
Before you can build, you must design. But who builds and who designs? Our vocation at VINCI Construction Grands Projets is to build, but clients also frequently ask that we handle, in part or in whole, the design portion of projects that are often challenging and complex.
