Contract to upgrade drinking water supply and treatment in Jamaica


VINCI Construction Grands Projets was recently awarded the first phase of the contract to upgradedrinking water supply and treatment for the town of Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, by the NWC (National Water Commission). The contract is worth €51 million. The work involves laying 19 km of pipes and upgrading two water treatment stations. WMI, subsidiary of VINCI Construction Grands Projets, will be responsible for optimising management of the network.

Baptism of the first TBM for the Liefkenshoek

The first of the two pressurised-mud tunnel boring machines built for the Liefkenshoek rail tunnel in Antwerp (Belgium) was baptized on 5 January. Named Schanulleke (from the name of a character in the Belgian Suske & Wiske comic strip), it will dig one of the two (7.3m interior-diameter and 5.9m-long) tunnels for the project. The second TBM, Wiske, arrived on the worksite on 19 January and will be baptized at the beginning of March.

Contract for Lee Tunnel in London

VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Bachy Soletanche Ltd (VINCI Construction), in a 50/50 joint  venture with Morgan Est, have been awarded the Lee Tunnel contract by Thames Water, the longstanding operator of London’s water services. The contract, worth a total of €476 million, calls for building a 7 km tunnel for storm water and wastewater in east London.
