Super-sized drill Busy Lizzie lowered into the ground for the Lee Tunnel project in the UK


On Friday, December 16, 2011, TBM Busy Lizzie was lowered into the deepest shaft of the Lee Tunnel in London, with representatives from the client – Thames Water – and the MVB joint venture in attendance. The name of the TBM – a reference to Queen Elisabeth II – was chosen by local schoolchildren as part of a contest held by Thames Water. The Herrenknecht TBM was designed to deal with the complex geological conditions in London.

Safety prize for the Hallandsås project

The Hallandsås project has been awarded a Safety prize by Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration, which is responsible for planning infrastructure investments for road, railway, sea, and air traffic. The awards ceremony was held December 4, 2011, at the project site, as a prelude to the Saint Barbara’s Day celebrations. The transport agency recently created this prize to highlight and reward the efforts of construction companies to reduce the number of accidents and to achieve a safe work environment. Seven construction projects were awarded prizes.

Gold Award for the M1 project!

The MVM consortium, consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projets, Morgan Sindall and Sir Robert McAlpine, has just garnered a Gold Award – the top prize – in the “Climate Change” category at the 2011 Green Apple Awards. The award ceremony was held on November 14, 2011 at the House of Commons in London.
