The Great War has a profound effect on public works even as it opens the door to promising markets. Foreign markets are closed. In large urban centres, worksites are paralysed by the shortage in manpower and raw materials as well as the establishment of the front on the eastern border.

GTM leads the civil engineering mandate for the Assouan dam, a project in which SGE takes part

1960

The 1960s begin with a wave of decolonization in Africa which has an impact on public works and compromises fixed assets in the affected countries. However, this era is also the golden age of large-scale development projects that are part of modernization movements in the newly independent nations.

Edmé Campenon dies
First activities in the nuclear energy industry

Establishment of Compagnie de constructions internationales (CCI) regrouping SGE, Campenon Bernard and GTM, allowing these companies to join forces when bidding on large-scale international projects and enhance their chances of obtaining them.

1966

SGE and GTM take part in moving the Abu Simbel temple in Egypt

1973

The energy crisis of the early 1970s are felt; however, it also opens up interesting opportunities in OPEC countries and in nuclear energy in France. It also benefits companies that had staked their success on the oil boom of the 1960s.

SGE completes the construction of terminal 1 Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport

GTM is the general contractor for the construction of the Centre Pompidou in Paris

SGE completes the construction of Nice airport

Dumez builds the second launch pad for the Ariane rocket in Kourou, French Guiana

The building and civil engineering industry in France experiences its sharpest downturn since the Second World War (the first signs of upturn appear in 1985)

GTM builds the Singapore subway

GTM launches renovation work at the Grand Louvre

Dumez launches work on the Channel Tunnel (linking France and the UK)
